Ode on a Starry Night

Ode on a Starry Night

David Enyedy

When one looks to the black sheet specked with white,

One recalls the simple beauty of it.

While the moon observes like the lord of night

Thousands of stars keep the peace with planets.

Blackness surrounds all the bodies of light,

Leaving this miniscule world so shrouded.

You bring out the creatures that fear the day

As you, starry, leave night-dwellers crowded.

Though black and cold may try to snuff your light,

You still can shine though the cloak of the night.

As the sun grows weary and weak at set,

You relieve him, so he can rest his tête.
